Date: 11/07/2009 Issue: November 2009

The LOHV seasons: Late spring and summer are for data-base building; autumn is for electioneering, winter is for lobbying.

November is the time of year when the various chapters and affiliates of LOHV should start planning for the upcoming legislative lobbying action. The New State Chapter is no different.

In the 2010 legislative session, we have to finish the work in progress started in 2009.  In the 2009 session LOHV was 100% successful in getting our three bills out of their primary committees in the Assembly and ready for  a floor vote.  In the Senate, our bills got stuck in the EnCon Committee where they are now.

The main senators to focus on are the Senate sponsors and the chair of the EnCon committee,  Senator Antoine Thompson of Buffalo. (See below.)

As soon as the legislature resumes its session in January of 2010 we must resume lobbying to get our pending bills out of the Senate EnCon Committee.
Lobbying in Buffalo should start now!!

Antoine Thompson, Chair of the Senate EnCon Committee
District 60  includes the Cities of Niagara Falls and Buffalo

Senator José Serrano

Senator Carl Kruger

Senator Carl  Marcellino

District 28 Eastern Manhattan/Western Bronx District 27 Southern Brooklyn District 05 Northern Nassau County
Bill S05423
Home Rule for Trapping
Bill S03223
Canned Hunt
Bill S00845
Shooting Contests
We want to organize constituents within all of the above districts to start calling their senators at their home and Albany offices regarding those bills.  That means accessing listserves and mailing lists to target those constituents as  precisely as possible.
2010 is an election year for all of the above and they will respond to a groundswell of interest in our issues.  We will wordsmith the scripts to use and get them out there starting  the middle of January.

Hopefully we can brainstorm the idea during our phone conference.

We look forward to working with you on protective laws for animals!
